The TECO project, launched by ANVUR in 2012, is an initiative aimed at assessing university students’ transversal (TECO-T) and disciplinary (TECO-D) competencies, with the goal of improving the quality of the educational process. By analysing learning outcomes, the project promotes student-centered teaching and supports self-assessment within the academic system
COMPETENCIES ASSESSED
- TECO-T (Transversal Competencies): Literacy, Numeracy, Problem Solving, and Civics – skills common to all study programmes.
- TECO-D (Disciplinary Competencies): Specific knowledge related to the learning contents of individual study programmes, defined in collaboration with disciplinary working groups (WGs).
The process includes the design of tests, their administration to students, and the processing of results, supporting the continuous improvement of study programmes and higher education institutions. Surveys are conducted annually during defined time windows (September–December) and can be administered either in person or remotely. Participating students receive a Certificate downloadable through the Universitaly portal.
TEST FEATURES
- Types of questions: multiple choice, true/false, completion, cloze tests, and questionnaires.
- Structure: randomized tests to ensure objectivity and reliability.
- Scoring: results are calculated using a probabilistic model that takes into account both individual ability and question difficulty (Rasch model).
The scores obtained do not affect students' academic records but serve as a useful tool for self-assessment and for the ongoing improvement of education quality.
The reliability of the surveys is ensured through:
- Randomization of questions and answers.
- In-class monitoring by proctor tutors.
Participation of universities, study programmes, and students is voluntary.
