Periodic assessment

The periodic assessment of universities consists of ANVUR verifying the continued compliance with the requirements that led to the initial accreditation, as well as the fulfillment of additional quality, efficiency, and effectiveness criteria in the activities carried out, also through the use of qualitative and quantitative indicators. This verification process involves the analysis of documentation provided by the university and the conduct of both remote and on-site visits.

ANVUR provides a comprehensive and analytical evaluation, which, under the current AVA 3 model, covers five key areas:

  • Strategy, Planning, and Organization – Defining, formalizing, and implementing a clear, coherent, structured, and publicly available vision of quality in teaching, research, third mission activities, and institutional and administrative functions through policies and strategies.
  • Resource Management – Managing material and intangible resources to support policies, strategies, and corresponding implementation plans.
  • Quality Assurance – Establishing a self-evaluation system for study programmes and departments, involving the monitoring and review of processes and results in teaching, research, and third mission activities.
  • Quality of Teaching and Student Services – Developing a clear and structured vision of the study programme offerings, aligned with both national and international contexts.
  • Quality of Research and Third Mission / Social Impact (Knowledge Enhancement) – Ensuring a clear, strategic approach for departments (or equivalent structures) in defining their research and third mission/social impact strategies, in alignment with the university's strategic guidelines.

At the end of the evaluation, the periodic assessment decision falls into one of four categories:

  • Fully satisfactory (valid for 5 years)
  • Satisfactory (valid for 5 years)
  • Partially satisfactory (valid for  2 years)
  • Not satisfactory (closure of the campus)
