Pilot Project for Quality Assurance in State AFAM Institutions

With the contribution of a group of national and international experts appointed in 2020, ANVUR developed a new model for the periodic accreditation of state AFAM institutions, tested within the framework of a Pilot Project.

The model was defined with the participation of ANVUR, representatives from European quality assurance agencies EQ-ARTS and MusiQuE, a doctoral candidate designated by ESU, and several national experts. The final outcome was subject to broad consultation involving key AFAM system stakeholders, including CNAM, the Conferences of AFAM Institutions and AFAM Students, MUR, and CIMEA.

The evaluation model is based on nine standards, specifically designed for AFAM institutions and study programmes, and fully aligned with European standards::

  • Quality assurance policy
  • Programme design and approval
  • Ongoing monitoring and periodic review of programmes
  • Student-centred learning, teaching, and assessment
  • Student admission, career progression, recognition, and certification
  • Teaching staff
  • Educational resources, facilities, and student support services
  • Information management
  • Academic integrity, transparency, and public access to information

The Guidelines for the experimentation of a standard model for quality assurance in the AFAM system provide operational instructions for the pilot phase, which initially involved the Academy of Fine Arts of Rome, the Conservatory of Music of Benevento, and the Conservatory of Music of Trieste.

The procedural steps follow a similar structure to those applied in the periodic accreditation of non-state AFAM institutions, using specifically defined protocols.
