The accreditation process for doctoral programmes in the 42nd cycle (XLII ciclo) covered 1,256 programmes, including 103 classified as Industrial Doctorates, 10 as National Doctorates and 13 as National Industrial Doctorates.
Of the 1,256 accredited programmes, 521 are administered by applicant universities headquartered in northern Italy, 353 by applicant universities headquartered in central Italy and 382 by applicant universities headquartered in southern Italy. Twenty-one programmes are offered by online universities, while four are offered by institutions authorised to award qualifications equivalent to a doctoral degree pursuant to Article 74 of Presidential Decree No. 382 of 11 July 1980.
