Rome, 28 March 2025 - ANVUR is pleased to announce its inclusion in the EQAR – European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education.

On 27 March, the Register Committee published and sent to the Agency its decision confirming the substantial compliance of ANVUR’s activities with the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG 2015). This result confirms the alignment of the Agency’s quality assurance procedures with the highest international standards and practices.

EQAR registration also entails confirmation of ANVUR’s status as a member of ENQA, the association that brings together quality assurance agencies operating within the European Higher Education Area, of which ANVUR has been a member since 2019 and whose board includes a representative of the Agency.

EQAR, established within the Bologna Process as a tool to support European higher education policies, includes quality assurance agencies recognised at the European level. It ensures that evaluations of higher education institutions and study programmes are carried out according to shared criteria within the European Higher Education Area. ANVUR’s admission to EQAR also marks a significant achievement for Italian higher education institutions on their path toward full integration into the European framework.

“This is a major milestone for our quality assurance system. It is a recognition of the work carried out by the Agency with professionalism and transparency, a confirmation of its continuous commitment and capacity to evolve in line with developments in the European higher education landscape,” stated Prof. Antonio Felice Uricchio, President of ANVUR. “At a time when evaluation processes must combine methodological rigour, flexibility, and adaptive capacity, this important recognition encourages us to continue with even greater determination and responsibility on the path of international dialogue. Special thanks go to all ANVUR staff, colleagues, and evaluation experts – including students – who actively took part in the review process, and to the Minister, Senator Anna Maria Bernini, for her consistent and strong support for the Agency’s work.”

Prof. Marilena Maniaci, member of the Governing Board and responsible for ANVUR’s international activities, declared: “Admission to EQAR – which makes an essential contribution to the integration of our academic system into the European context – represents the culmination of ANVUR’s path towards increasing internationalisation, strongly supported by the current Governing Board. This path has led to the creation of a solid network of collaborations with other European agencies, active participation in international projects and working groups, and also to my election to the ENQA Board. This is a collective result made possible by the unwavering commitment of the Agency’s staff and the vital support of the university and AFAM systems, students, and the Ministry. ANVUR has maintained an open and constructive dialogue with all of them over the years, which played a decisive role in the successful outcome of the review process.”

ANVUR Director Dr. Daniele Livon emphasised: “This result represents a strategic goal achieved, which now needs to be consolidated over time. It is the outcome of concrete efforts both in terms of organisational structure and evaluation processes, which we have worked hard on in recent years. Thanks to this recognition, the Agency can now be involved in international evaluations, and our universities will have greater opportunities to take on leadership roles in European alliances – two key steps to strengthen the internationalisation of our higher education system.”
